Puck News reported this week that the actor and Goop founder is planning a private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honour of OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman. The invitation, an ornate blue-on-cream affair with hand-drawn doves and a sun with a human face, sets the date for Saturday, August 29. Cocktails at 6 pm, seated dinner at 6:45 pm, RSVPs to events@goop.com.The venue is listed only as “Gwyneth’s home, Amagansett, NY,” with a line noting that the actual address will be provided closer to the date. It is a small detail that tells you everything about the guest list. This is not a product launch or a brand activation. It is a Hamptons dinner party for people who do not want to be photographed arriving at one, and it caps a year in which Paltrow has quietly repositioned herself from wellness tastemaker to AI-adjacent operator.

She has also put money into beauty-tech startup Potion AI and became a co-owner of meditation app Moments of Space in 2024.Then it got more public. After the Coldplay kiss-cam mess involving Astronomer, the data company hired her to front a knowing promotional video for its AI products. Goop Kitchen, the brand’s fast-casual arm, signed a lease this year for a ground-floor space at 405 Howard Street in San Francisco, part of Anthropic’s headquarters. Anthropic staff can now get turmeric-spiced chicken bone broth without leaving the building.
The Goop Podcast has quietly turned into an AI show
Of the podcast’s 11 most recent episodes, five mention AI in the title or description. Some fit neatly, like Esther Perel on AI and dating, or a chat with the chief medical officer of an AI longevity clinic. Her June conversation with an Anduril cofounder went down less smoothly online, with Mother Jones accusing her of goopifying drone warfare.

The timing is the uncomfortable part. Puck reported in May that Goop cut staff, with a person familiar with the matter citing profitability and AI. Sources put the number around 20, though a Goop spokesperson said it was lower, describing the company as adapting to a shifting landscape. Emily Sundberg’s Feed Me newsletter reported the cuts were justified by a pivot to AI workflow, and that Paltrow led the meeting herself. Goop had already cut 18 per cent of its workforce in 2024.
