PUNE: Police in Maharashtra have registered a case against eight members of a right-wing outfit after a man was allegedly assaulted following an argument over a young girl wearing shorts at Sinhagad Fort near Pune.The incident took place on Monday near the samadhi, or memorial, of Tanaji Malusare, the military commander and trusted companion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, police said.“A group of members of the right-wing outfit objected to the girl wearing shorts on the fort, which led to a heated argument between them and the complainant. The argument escalated and the complainant was allegedly assaulted,” inspector Rajesh Ramaghare of the Haveli police station said.According to the police, the complainant and his family were taking photographs when the accused approached them and questioned them about their clothes and photography. The group also allegedly asked the family to leave the fort.The complainant told police that one of the accused slapped him, while a woman allegedly dragged his wife.“The group also misbehaved with another couple and attempted to resort to moral policing,” the officer said.The complainant later approached the police, following which an FIR was registered against the eight members, including three women.The police have also received similar complaints from members of three other groups who visited the fort on Sunday.“We have launched a search to apprehend the eight accused, including three women. Further investigation is underway,” said inspector Rajesh Ramaghare, in charge of Haveli police station.
