Govinda defends his long-standing late coming reputation: ‘Kiske andar itni taaqat hai ki 4-5 shifts kare aur time pe aaye?’

Govinda has opened up about the intense shooting schedule he followed during the peak of his career and addressed the criticism surrounding his punctuality. The actor explained that completing multiple shifts in a single day made it extremely difficult to reach every set exactly on time. When asked why he was often unable to arrive on schedule, Govinda pointed to the sheer number of shoots he was handling. He shared in a podcast with ANI, “Kiske andar itni taaqat hai ki paanch shift kare aur time pe aaye? Nobody can do. Ye kisi ke bas mein nahi hai. Kaise karega?” (Who has the strength to do five shifts and still arrive on time? Nobody can do it. It’s simply not possible for anyone. How can you manage that?)He also questioned how anyone could realistically manage four or five different shoots within the same day without facing delays.

Filmmakers were eager to work with him

Govinda was also asked why he accepted so many films simultaneously if his schedule was already so demanding. The actor explained that the decision was not entirely one-sided, as filmmakers themselves were eager to have him in their projects. He recalled how producers and directors would approach him because they wanted to work with him despite knowing how packed his calendar was. Govinda said, “Haan, aate the log. Aa jaate hain log aur zid karte hain aur kaha karte hain ki bhai, we want to work with you, somehow will plan and manage.” (Yes, people used to come. They would come and insist, saying, ‘Brother, we want to work with you. We will somehow plan and manage the schedule). According to him, filmmakers were aware of his workload and were willing to adjust their schedules to accommodate his availability.

Govinda’s response to concerns about waiting co-stars

The conversation then turned to the other actors who sometimes had to remain on sets while waiting for Govinda. When the actor was asked whether this was unfair to his co-stars, he disagreed with the suggestion that they were simply losing out because of the delays.Govinda pointed out that these actors were also being paid for their time and were part of a professional system where schedules and remuneration were already determined. “No, they were making money, they were doing business. Kya baat kar rahi hain aap,” (What are you talking about?) he said.He further explained that co-stars were compensated according to their working days, meaning their time on set was also part of their professional earnings.

Govinda recalls working with Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor

To underline how frequently he was working during that period, Govinda cited his extensive collaborations with two of his most familiar screen partners, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor. He revealed, “Jaise abhi 43 films maine Kader Khan ji ke saath ki aur 42 film maine Shakti Kapoor ji ke saath ki. Ye sabhi logon ne…” (For instance, I did 43 films with Kader Khan ji and 42 films with Shakti Kapoor ji. All these people did the same.)His collaborations with Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor became a defining part of his career, particularly through the numerous comedy films they made together.

The actor remembers how successful those years were

Govinda also reflected on how the actors and filmmakers of that generation eventually benefited from the enormous amount of work they were doing. He recalled that many people who had initially lived modestly were eventually able to buy their own homes as their careers progressed.

Govinda’s personal life has also been in the spotlight

Govinda’s latest remarks come at a time when the actor has been making headlines beyond his film career, particularly over discussions surrounding his personal life and his relationship with wife Sunita Ahuja. The couple’s marriage and their recent comments about their relationship have sparked considerable public interest, bringing renewed attention to the actor’s life away from the screen.
