8 labourers killed as pick-up vehicle collides with truck in MP’s Bhind | Bhopal News
BHOPAL: Eight labourers were killed and 23 others, including the driver of a truck, injured when a speeding pickup carrying 29 migrant workers collided head-on with an oncoming truck on NH-719 in Gohad area of Bhind late Monday night.The accident occurred around 1am when the labourers, from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, were returning home after completing paddy transplantation work in the Gwalior region.Gohad Chauraha police and local residents went to the spot and pulled the injured out of the mangled pickup before taking them to hospital. Five bodies have been kept at Gohad and three at Gwalior. Police were working to establish the identities of the deceased.Police said the pickup was travelling at an estimated 80-90 kmph when the driver suddenly swerved to avoid cows sitting on the highway. The vehicle then collided with the oncoming truck.The impact left the pickup mangled and several labourers injured. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time as police removed the damaged vehicles and cleared the road.
