Jordan's Queen Rania shares first photos of twin granddaughters Talia and Rania, cradles newborns; King Abdullah II joins after Princess Iman welcomes daughters
Jordan’s Queen Rania and King Abdullah II cradle newborn twin granddaughters Talia and Rania in their arms after Princess Iman welcomes daughters.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Queen Rania are celebrating the newest additions to their family after their daughter, Princess Iman, welcomed twin girls with her husband, Jameel Thermiotis. The Jordanian royal family shared the first portraits of the newborns on Monday, August 17, giving royal watchers a glimpse of the twin sisters with their grandparents.Queen Rania, 55, shared the photographs on Instagram, where she welcomed her new granddaughters. “Healthy, happy, and finally here. We’ve been waiting so long to meet you, Talia and Rania♥️♥️ Congratulations Iman, Jameel, and sweet big sister Amina,” she wrote.

Princess Iman’s twin daughters named Talia and Rania

Princess Iman and Jameel announced their daughters’ names in a statement on Friday. The twins have been named Talia and Rania, with the latter named after their royal grandmother. The Jordanian royal family has previously repeated names across generations. When Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa welcomed their first child in 2024, they named their daughter Iman, after Crown Prince Hussein’s sister. The new photographs show King Abdullah, 64, and Queen Rania holding their granddaughters. In one heartwarming image, Queen Rania is seen holding both newborns at the same time. Another photograph shows the royal couple standing with their newly promoted big sister, Amina, as they look at the babies.

Princess Iman becomes a mother of three

The photographs also offered a glimpse of Princess Iman, 29, following the birth of her twin daughters. Dressed casually in comfortable clothes, the new mother is seen smiling while cradling one of the newborns. In another photograph, Princess Iman poses with her father, King Abdullah, who is holding one of the babies. She wore a sweatshirt representing the University of Southern California, where her sister, Princess Salma, attended.Queen Rania had announced her daughter’s pregnancy in July, but the royal family had not publicly revealed that Princess Iman was expecting twins.

Royal Hashemite Court announces birth of twins

The Royal Hashemite Court announced the birth on August 14 through its official website.“The Royal Hashemite Court is pleased to announce that Her Royal Highness Princess Iman bint Abdullah II and Mr. Jameel Alexander Thermiotis were blessed, on 14 August 2026, with twin baby girls,” the statement read.It added, “Hashemite Court extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Princess Iman and Mr. Jameel, as well as to Their Majesties King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Queen Rania Al Abdullah on this happy occasion.”Princess Iman is the second child and eldest daughter of King Abdullah and Queen Rania. The royal couple also have Crown Prince Hussein, Princess Salma and Prince Hashem.Iman married Jameel Thermiotis, a Greek-Venezuelan businessman, in March 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Amina, on February 16, 2025.

Why Princess Iman’s daughters are not in Jordan’s line of succession

Although Talia and Rania are granddaughters of King Abdullah II, Princess Iman’s three daughters will not be added to Jordan’s line of succession. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s Constitution specifies that the throne passes through a hereditary line of male heirs of King Abdullah Ibn Al-Hussein’s dynasty.Article 28 states that the royal title passes from the holder of the throne to his eldest son and then to the eldest son of that son, continuing through the male line. The King can, however, select one of his brothers as heir apparent under certain circumstances.

Princess Eugenie also welcomes a baby girl

Princess Iman isn’t the only royal to welcome a new addition recently. Princess Eugenie, the niece of King Charles, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their third child, a baby girl, on August 3.The couple have not yet publicly revealed their daughter’s name. She joins their two sons, August Philip Hawke, 5, and Ernest George Ronnie, 3.Unlike Princess Iman’s daughters, Princess Eugenie’s baby girl is part of the British line of succession and reportedly holds the 15th position.
