'Pure evil': Ex-Congresswoman claims Trump officials discussing using nukes against Iran
Marjorie Taylor Greene has raised alarms suggesting that Trump administration officials are considering the use of nuclear weapons against Iran

Former US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed that Trump administration officials are discussing the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran, alleging that the issue has come up in high-level strategy meetings as the conflict between Washington and Tehran continues.Greene made the claim in a post on X on Sunday, saying the discussions were “real” and accusing the administration of moving towards a lower threshold for the use of nuclear weapons. She also claimed that US intelligence assessments do not show Iran being close to developing a nuclear weapon, and accused the Trump administration of relying instead on warnings from Israel.Greene did not provide evidence for her claims. The White House has not immediately commented on the allegations. The claims come amid continued tensions between the US and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major flashpoint in the conflict that began on February 28.Trump keeps pressure on TehranTrump has continued to demand concessions from Iran while linking the conflict to the reopening and control of the Strait of Hormuz. On August 14, Trump said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory, saying the move would come after the US finishes defeating Iran.Earlier this month, Trump described ongoing negotiations with Tehran as Iran’s “last chance” and warned of further military action if Iran failed to reach an agreement with Washington. The Trump administration has repeatedly said that Iran must not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon. However, Greene’s latest allegation raises questions over whether nuclear options are being discussed within the administration.Hormuz remains key flashpointThe Strait of Hormuz has emerged as the central point of confrontation between Washington and Tehran.Tanker traffic through the waterway has fallen sharply following attacks involving commercial vessels, while the US has threatened additional economic pressure on Iran.Tehran has continued to use its control over the strait as leverage in negotiations with Washington, while the US has demanded the restoration of normal commercial shipping. The two sides reached a memorandum aimed at easing the conflict, but the agreement’s 60-day deadline expired on August 17 without a permanent settlement.Substantive negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme have also remained stalled, leaving the broader conflict unresolved.Greene’s allegation comes against this backdrop of heightened tensions, with Washington continuing to insist that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is a central objective of its policy towards Tehran.
