11, including 7 children, fall ill; 3 in ICU after ‘dead lizard’ found in cake near Mumbai
By: Suhas BirhadeNALASOPARA: Eleven people, including seven children and four women, suffered suspected food poisoning after consuming a birthday cake at a party in Nalasopara on Saturday.Three of the children are currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. The children reportedly told doctors that a dead lizard was found in the cake.The incident took place at Neelkantheshwar building in Takipada, Nalasopara East, where a 25-year-old woman was celebrating her birthday. Around 6pm, some children from the neighbourhood arrived with a cake for the birthday celebration.Shortly after eating the cake, some of them complained of a burning sensation in their chests and began vomiting.They were rushed to the nearby Vijayalaxmi Hospital for treatment.A total of 11 people were admitted with suspected food poisoning, including seven children and four women. Three children are undergoing treatment in the ICU. The children also claimed that a dead lizard was found in the cake.“All those undergoing treatment are stable,” said Dr Vidya Sawant of the hospital.Tulinj police visited the hospital after being informed about the incident. The cake was reportedly purchased from Chamunda Cake Shop in Takipada. Police have seized samples of the cake and sent them for testing. The exact cause of the suspected food poisoning will be established after the test reports are received
