Google: Gemini app becomes Google’s fastest-growing consumer product ever: CEO Sundar Pichai shares ‘thank you’ message
Google’s Gemini mobile app has officially surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it the fastest-growing consumer product in the company’s history. Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the milestone on social media, noting that Gemini has become Google’s 14th individual product to cross the 1-billion-user mark.“1B+ people are now using @Geminiapp every month to spark new ideas and get things done,” Pichai posted on X (fprmerly Twitter), adding, “It’s our fastest growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark. Kudos to @JoshWoodward & the entire Gemini team, and thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with us – much more to come!”Josh Woodword joined the party. The vice president who he leads Google Labs as well as the Gemini app and AI Studio, said: “One billion for Gemini! Our goal remains to make it the most personal, proactive, and powerful assistant. Voice interactions and multimodal real-time use take center stage
Google released companion usage statistics which reveal that user interactions are moving rapidly away from traditional text prompts toward conversational voice and visual inputs. According to company data, 63% of active users now interact directly with Gemini via voice commands, with a growing segment relying entirely on hands-free vocal inputs. Parents were identified as 43% more likely than the average user to rely on voice controls for day-to-day tasks.Beyond audio, real-time visual assistance is gaining traction through Gemini Live. According to Google, one in five Gemini Live sessions now extends beyond voice to incorporate real-time camera feeds or screen sharing, allowing users to troubleshoot physical DIY projects or study complex visual material.Educational adoption remains high, with 38% of school-related requests submitted to Gemini containing uploaded file attachments or document photos. Coming to small business content generation, the app now generates over 150 million images daily, serving as an all-in-one suite for small business marketing across text, image, video, and audio creation.On Android, Gemini can automate background actions across more than 40 popular applications, streamlining everyday tasks such as ride-hailing and restaurant reservations.Meanwhile, adoption on Apple hardware has expanded significantly. Google reported that the Gemini app now counts over 100 million active users on iOS, while power users on macOS submit prompts roughly twice as frequently as users on other operating surfaces.
Google ‘catches’ OpenAI with 1 billion Gemini app users
On July 31, OpenAI announced that it has more than one billion active users and two million businesses using its AI models. The announcement comes after OpenAI said earlier this week it was cutting the price of several of its models.Notably, in his Q2 2026 earnings call remarks on July 22, Pichai said that the Gemini app had 950 million monthly active users, with daily active users tripling in the last year.
