'Mixed poison in soft drink': UP man kills son, dies by suicide over wife's extended stay at parents' home
Kapil allegedly poisoned his four-year-old son and himself after a dispute with his wife

MEERUT: A 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son died after he allegedly made the child consume a soft drink mixed with poison before consuming the substance himself, police said on Saturday.Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by a dispute with his wife, who had stayed back at her parental home after a family function. The incident took place in Govindpur Shakarpur village under Kithore police station limits.Police identified the deceased as Kapil, a resident of Rahdara village, and his son Krishna, also known as Laddu.Kapil had married Kajal, a resident of Govindpur Shakarpur, around five years ago, and the couple had two children.According to police, Kajal remained at her parents’ house after attending her sister’s wedding on July 3.“When Kapil came to take her home the following day, she asked to extend her stay for a few more days, citing family responsibilities, leading to an argument between the couple. On Friday, Kapil again visited his in-laws’ house, and another argument reportedly broke out between the two over the stay,” police said.Preliminary investigations revealed that Kapil, allegedly upset over the dispute, mixed poison in a soft drink and gave it to his son.The child was rushed to hospital after his condition deteriorated but died on the way, police said.Kapil allegedly consumed the poisonous substance soon afterwards. He was admitted to hospital in a critical condition and died during treatment early on Saturday.Kithore Station House Officer Subodh Kumar Saxena said the matter was being investigated. He said police had questioned members of both families to ascertain the circumstances leading to the deaths and that further legal action would be taken based on the findings.(With PTI inputs)
