CINTAA hits back at ‘false’ dissolution claims: ‘A 68-year old institution cannot be undermined by misinformation'

The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), one of the oldest bodies representing actors in India, has rejected reports claiming that its Executive Committee has been dissolved. The association called the claims incorrect and said they are not supported by its Constitution. Established in 1958, CINTAA has been representing artistes across films, television, digital platforms, advertising and live performances for nearly seven decades. Over the years, the association has worked to protect the professional rights, welfare and working conditions of actors in the entertainment industry. For nearly seven decades, CINTAA has worked on several issues affecting artistes, including contracts, delayed payments, workplace disputes, professional rights and ethical practices. The association has also supported members during difficult times and helped artistes dealing with both professional and personal challenges. Over the years, CINTAA has also worked with various industry stakeholders to encourage fair and transparent practices in the film and television sectors.Against this backdrop, CINTAA has strongly objected to claims suggesting that its elected Executive Committee is no longer in place. According to the association, its Constitution states that the Executive Committee can be dissolved only if more than 50 per cent of its elected members resign. CINTAA said that no such situation has occurred and, therefore, the committee continues to remain valid and fully functional. The association further clarified that any vacancies in the Executive Committee have been filled according to its constitutional rules. Eligible members who were next in line based on the voting count have been inducted to fill those positions.“The version which has been circulating that the EC of CINTAA is dissolved is totally wrong, misconceived and lacks any judicial sanctity. As per the Constitution of CINTAA, the EC shall dissolve only when more than 50 per cent of the elected members of the EC resign, which is not the case at hand.“FWICE has now jumped into the fray and, in CINTAA’s considered view, has sought to assume powers that are neither known to nor recognised under CINTAA’s constitutional framework. Acting, as we understand it, at the behest of certain disgruntled individuals, it has issued directions which CINTAA considers wholly untenable and contrary to the Constitution of the Association. Such attempts cannot determine or override the internal governance of an autonomous trade union functioning under its own Constitution.“The Executive Committee of CINTAA remains very much in existence and continues to function for the welfare of artistes and for the protection and strengthening of the rights of vulnerable actors. CINTAA will take all appropriate steps available to it to safeguard the autonomy of the Association, uphold its Constitution and protect the larger interests of its members,” said Adv. Suvigya Vidyarthi, Legal Counsel representing CINTAA.CINTAA also stressed that the association is much bigger than a particular office or Executive Committee. With a history spanning 68 years, it has become an important platform for actors seeking support during professional disputes, delayed payments, unfair treatment and other challenges. The association said that many artistes, especially those without strong bargaining power, have relied on CINTAA to raise their concerns and protect their rights.Over the years, CINTAA has worked to address members’ grievances, promote fair treatment and create a more secure and organised working environment for artistes. The association believes its role is particularly important in an industry where individual actors may sometimes struggle to speak up on their own.CINTAA further maintained that internal disagreements, resignations or changes within the organisation do not automatically invalidate its constitutional structure or affect its institutional legitimacy. In a strongly worded public notice, CINTAA stated:“All concerned are hereby informed that some confusion is being sought to be created by some disgruntled members of CINTAA for oblique motives. Our Union is fully operational and functional through its EC. Take note.”The Executive Committee, CINTAACINTAA reiterated that its doors remain open to its members and that its work continues uninterrupted. For an organisation that has stood for actors for 68 years, CINTAA said the present issue goes far beyond the tenure of any individual office-bearer. At stake, it maintains, are the independence of an actors’ union, the sanctity of its Constitution and its right to govern itself in accordance with that Constitution while continuing to represent and protect its members.CINTAA remains operational. Its Executive Committee remains in place. And its 68-year mandate to stand up for actors continues.
