AHMEDABAD: A security guard has been arrested in Ahmedabad after allegedly raping a woman on the terrace of a residential building and fleeing the scene, police said on Sunday.The incident took place under the Anandnagar Police Station limits, with police saying the accused had been hired as a security guard only four days before the alleged crime.According to police, the accused allegedly strangled the woman before raping her. He then locked her on the terrace and fled.A video of the accused shows him limping and repeatedly pleading,”ek baar maaf kardo, phirse nai karunga, ek baar maaf kardo.”
Woman attacked, raped on terrace
JCP Sector 1, Ahmedabad Police, Neeraj Badgujar, said the woman had gone to the terrace of her building at night when the accused allegedly attacked her.“A tragic incident of rape occurred last night within the jurisdiction of the Anandnagar Police Station. The victim had gone to the terrace of her building at night; the accused, who had been hired as a security guard just four days prior, strangled her and then raped her. Afterwards, he locked the victim on the terrace and fled,” Badgujar said.Police teams reached the residential building after receiving information about the incident and began investigating the case.“Upon receiving information about the incident, police personnel and officers immediately arrived at the scene and initiated the process of registering an FIR. Meanwhile, the accused had switched off his phone and escaped,” he said.
Restrained her with wire around the neck
Sector 1 JCP Neeraj Badgujar said CCTV footage shows him taking the lift to the terrace around the time of the incident. Police said the accused had been deployed at the society for only about six days. He had worked for different security agencies for the past four years.DCP, Zone-7, Shivam Verma said while the woman’s medical condition is stable, she is under severe trauma.“She has been in the city for around two years for studies,” said Verma, adding that she tried to scream, but the accused had overpowered her and tried to strangle her with the wire. Police will record her statement and probe if the guard knew of her routine. The security agency will also be questioned about his registration.
10 teams deployed to trace accused
Police deployed 10 teams comprising personnel from the local police, Local Crime Branch and Crime Branch to track down the accused.The teams searched the area and examined available CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Police eventually apprehended the accused at around 7am or 8am, Badgujar said.“They conducted a thorough search of the area and checked all available CCTV footage, eventually apprehending the accused around 7.00 or 8.00am. He is currently being interrogated, and the process for his medical examination is underway,” he added.The accused is a native of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh and had been working as a security guard for various companies, police said.
Action against security agency
Police said they would also take action against the security agency that employed the accused.“We will take action against the security agency too. An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) concerning rape,” Badgujar said.Further investigation into the case is underway.
