They counted a total of 1,678 microplastic particles inside the fish, evidence that contamination is widespread through the river ecosystem.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>However, the Delhi stretch was the most polluted with Sonia Vihar and Sur Ghat recording the highest concentrations.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>The study says rapid urbanisation, untreated sewage, textile effluents and the heavy load of suspended particulates flowing through Delhi have created ideal conditions for microplastics to build up in the river and ultimately in fish.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/><span class=\"strong\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">Also read:<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/delhi\/microplastics-found-in-all-12-fish-species-sampled-from-yamuna-delhi-stretch-worst-hit-study\/articleshow\/132840216.cms\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study on microplastics found in all 12 fish species sampled from Yamuna<\/a><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h3>Plastic pollution is no longer just in the river \u2014 it\u2019s inside fish tissues<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>The study\u2019s findings are troubling because the contamination was not confined to the digestive system.
