Similar retention challenges are affecting established tech giants across the Silicon Valley. Google lost prominent researcher Noam Shazeer to OpenAI, while Nobel laureate John Jumper departed for Anthropic.Meta spent heavily to recruit top-tier talent for Alexandr Wang\u2019s superintelligence unit, only to see several high-profile hires leave shortly with many heading to OpenAI. Safe Superintelligence, the startup founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, lost its CEO to Meta last year.Apple has seen more than 400 former employees transition to OpenAI, prompting Apple to file a lawsuit alleging OpenAI used internal project codenames to draw confidential information from prospective hires.<\/p>\n While high salary offers and pre-IPO equity remain major incentives, researchers reportedly emphasise that non-financial factors often dictate their final decisions. Access to massive computing infrastructure, creative freedom over model architecture, and direct influence over safety protocols frequently outweigh monetary gains.An executive tech recruiter noted that the movement is driven by a mix of financial goals and \u2018some ego about changing the world.\u2019 At the same time, some engineers admit to feeling a sense of urgency.
