Reports that CBS placed Romo on indefinite leave after his DUI arrest quickly shifted attention from the legal story to a much bigger question: who could eventually take over as the network\u2019s top analyst alongside Jim Nantz?<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"2\"\/>Pittsburgh Steelers legend <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/aaron-rodgers\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aaron Rodgers<\/a> has become the most intriguing name in that conversation. CBS has not announced any interest in the Steelers quarterback, and no negotiations have been reported. <!-- -->Still, media discussions have increasingly connected Rodgers to the role because of his star power, football intelligence, and the possibility that he could move into television after his playing career ends.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/> <\/p>\n<p><h2>Why has Aaron Rodgers suddenly become a realistic name in CBS\u2019s future plans?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Aaron Rodgers broadcasting speculation did not start with CBS. It started with discussions across NFL media about what the network could do if Romo remains away from its No. 1 booth.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>Awful Announcing reporter Brandon Contes discussed Aaron Rodgers as a possible long-term option for CBS once he retires from the NFL. <!-- -->The report pointed to a familiar trend in sports television, where networks often pursue elite quarterbacks for their biggest analyst jobs because of their recognition, credibility, and ability to attract viewers.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>The comparison to Tom Brady naturally followed. FOX signed Brady to a long-term broadcasting contract before he retired, and he later moved into the network\u2019s lead NFL role. That example showed how networks sometimes think years ahead when they target star quarterbacks.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>Aaron Rodgers fits many of those same qualities. He remains one of the league\u2019s biggest personalities and one of the most accomplished quarterbacks of his generation. His move to the Steelers has kept him firmly in the national spotlight, which makes any future television role an easy subject for media speculation.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>CBS has not publicly identified a permanent replacement for Romo. J.J. Watt has worked with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson, but reports have not described him as the clear long-term successor.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Aaron Rodgers has shown interest in television, but not in calling NFL games<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>The biggest question is whether Aaron Rodgers even wants a broadcasting career. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said, \u201cYou won\u2019t see me. I\u2019m not doing TV.\u201d That remains the clearest public comment he has made about a potential move into television.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/>At the same time, Aaron Rodgers has shown that he is comfortable in front of a national audience. When he guest-hosted Jeopardy!, he openly discussed how much he enjoyed the experience.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rodgers said, \u201cHosting the show has always been a dream of mine. It\u2019s like my second dream job.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/>At the moment, the Aaron Rodgers-to-CBS story remains speculation rather than a negotiation.
