India’s judo team assured the country of at least three silver medals at the Commonwealth Games after Asmita Dey, Harsh Singh and Yamini Mourya reached the finals of their respective weight categories in Glasgow on Friday.Asmita produced a strong comeback to beat Scotland’s Summer Shaw by yuko in the women’s 48kg semifinal and book her place in the final, where she will face Canada’s Heidi Quach later on Friday.Earlier, she had entered the semifinals with an ippon win over Scotland’s Eva Ewing.An ippon is the highest possible score in judo. It means a full point and ends the match immediately. Yuko is a lower-level score in judo that was brought back by the International Judo Federation (IJF) for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.Harsh Singh also moved into the men’s 60kg final after beating Australia’s Pedro Carlos Antun Neto by waza-ari in the semifinal.He had earlier defeated Malawi’s Chikondi Kathewera by ippon in the opening round before overcoming Vanuatu’s Alan Monthouel in the quarterfinals to reach the last four.Harsh will face Australia’s Joshua Katz in the final later on Friday.A waza-ari is the second-highest score in judo and gives a major advantage. It is awarded for a throw that misses one element needed for an ippon or for a ground hold lasting 10 to 19 seconds. Two waza-aris equal one ippon and end the contest.Yamini Mourya also entered the women’s final after defeating South Africa’s Donne Breytenbach by ippon in the semifinal. She will face England’s Acelya Toprak in the title clash.Earlier, Yamini had beaten Ghana’s Frema Agyei to reach the semifinals.In the women’s 52kg category, Shraddha Kadubal Chopade missed out on a medal after losing to Wales’ Lola Hodson by yuko in the repechage.Shraddha had started her campaign with an ippon win over Sierra Leone’s Jane Massaquoi before losing to Australia’s Tinka Easton.In the men’s 66kg category, Rohit Basir Majgul was also knocked out in the repechage after losing to England’s Michael Fryer by yuko. Rohit had earlier beaten Mozambique’s Samuel Ribeiro before suffering a quarterfinal defeat to Cyprus’ Petros Christodoulides.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
