According to the study, mangrove projects produced benefit-cost ratios as high as 47 to 1.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/>That means a relatively small restoration investment could return many times its original value through carbon storage, coastal protection and other ecosystem services. Salt marshes and seagrass beds also delivered important returns, reinforcing the idea that all types of coastal wetlands deserve attention in policy planning.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>A climate and coastal strategy<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>The study\u2019s authors argue that coastal wetland restoration should be treated as part of climate and coastal planning, not as a separate conservation activity. That makes sense when you consider how much these ecosystems contribute to carbon storage and resilience.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>China\u2019s restoration work has already helped offset a large share of blue carbon losses caused by reclamation.
