You are looking good!\u201d The monarch had a rather cheeky response. \u201cIt gets much harder, doesn\u2019t it?\u201d Hello! reported. Those words, delivered with perfect timing and a familiar smile, got a laugh from people who recognised them immediately as truth, not humility. It landed because it was honest in a way royal statements rarely are. Interestingly, this is not the first time he has spoken this way about ageing. He has made similar observations over the past couple of years. In September 2025, while visiting the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, he quipped about ageing. \u201cThis is the terrible thing, as I am discovering already. The bits don\u2019t work so well when you get past 70,\u201d he said. Last year, when asked about skiing, he admitted those days were squarely \u2018behind him\u2019. King Charles first announced his cancer diagnosis in early 2024. On 5 February, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with a form of cancer, discovered during treatment. The palace said the King \u201ccommenced a schedule of regular treatments\u201d, and that during that period he would \u201cpostpone public-facing duties\u201d.\u201cThe King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,\u201d the statement said. The statement also explained that the monarch had \u201cchosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer\u201d. In December 2025, the palace announced that his treatment schedule would be reduced after he responded well to care. The King said, \u201cthanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention, and adherence to \u2018doctors\u2019 orders\u2019, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year.\u201d\u201cThis milestone is both a personal blessing and a testament to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years, testament that I hope may give encouragement to the 50 per cent of us who will be diagnosed with the illness at some point in our lives,\u201d the King added.The palace followed up with a statement saying King Charles \u201chas responded exceptionally well to treatment, and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase. This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritise his continued recovery.\u201dMeanwhile, the RHS flower show marked the first official event of its kind at the Sandringham estate, and King Charles was there with Queen Camilla, working the crowd as he does at any public engagement. During that same walkabout, another well-wisher told him that he bore a striking resemblance to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth. \u201cYou look so much like your mum,\u201d the well-wisher said.
