In the attacks that reached as far as the western city of Lviv, prompted neighbouring Poland to scramble fighter jets to secure its airspace.Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned about the ballistic missiles heading towards the capital and urged residents to take shelter. Explosions were then heard in Kyiv, according to a Reuters witness. In the western city of Lviv, local officials said two apartment buildings were damaged and six people were injured.The attacks also inflicted heavy casualties elsewhere in the country. Six people, including two children, were killed in the Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions, while in Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, six more people lost their lives after what local officials said was a direct strike by a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile.Among those killed in Kryvyi Rih were two girls aged 5 and 12. Eight other people were injured in the strike. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city’s defence council, said the missile was launched from Russia’s Voronezh region and hit the home of a large family. Describing it as “a dark night”, he warned that the death toll could rise as emergency workers continued clearing the rubble.In the western city of Lviv, near the Polish border, rescue workers searched through the debris after Russian missiles damaged two apartment buildings and injured 15 people, according to local officials.Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned that Russia was likely preparing a massive attack. Following the strikes, he said Ukraine’s ability to protect its people depended on its allies willingness to provide more air defence missiles.The appeal came as Zelenskyy returned from the United States, where he said President Donald Trump had agreed to provide Ukraine with licences for Patriot missile systems.“It is important that our partners fully understand what is happening and that the protection of people’s lives depends directly on their willingness, or lack of willingness, to provide air defence \u200bmissiles,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.Poland, a member of the European Union and Nato that shares a border with Ukraine, scrambled fighter jets and activated its air defence network as a precaution following the Russian missile strikes.In a post on X, the Polish armed forces said fighter aircraft and an airborne early warning aircraft had been deployed, while ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on the highest state of readiness to safeguard the country’s airspace. The military said the measures were preventive in nature.Ukraine expands strikes on Russia’s logistics network<\/span>Ukraine’s long-range drone campaign continued to target Russia’s logistics infrastructure, with a warehouse belonging to the country’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, catching fire in the western city of Penza.Regional Governor Oleg Melnichenko said one person was injured and around 200 people were evacuated after the attack. The incident came just a day after Wildberries was forced to evacuate another facility in central Russia following a separate Ukrainian drone strike.Following the latest attack, Wildberries said it had rerouted its supply chains to minimise disruptions. The company has increasingly become a target of Ukrainian drone strikes, which have repeatedly hit its warehouse network across Russia.According to the company and local authorities, nearly a dozen Wildberries warehouses have been damaged in recent attacks, destroying about 10% of its storage capacity and causing losses for tens of thousands of small businesses that rely on the platform.The repeated disruptions have also affected ordinary Russians, many of whom depend on online retail as a primary source of income, while Ukraine’s campaign against energy facilities, refineries and logistics infrastructure continues to strain Russia’s economy.The financial impact is also being felt in the banking sector.
