He could have stayed in Los Angeles on a salary worth more than $50 million a season or simply called time on one of the greatest careers in sports.<!-- --> Instead, he made a choice that surprised even longtime fans. LeBron left the money behind and joined the Philadelphia 76ers because he still believes he has one more championship run left in him. As he prepares for a record-breaking 24th NBA season, he has made it clear that winning, not money, is what drives him now.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Why LeBron James gave up millions to keep chasing another NBA title<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>LeBron\u2019s move to Philadelphia was about much more than changing teams. With the 76ers, he signed a two-year veteran-minimum contract that pays $3.88 million for the 2026-27 season and includes a $4.07 million player option for 2027-28.
