Jamie Dimon, CEO of America\u2019s largest bank JPMorgan Chase has cast doubt on Canadian PM Mark Carney\u2019s proposal for a coalition of middle powers, calling it a \u2018fantasy\u2019. According to a report by Moneywise, speaking by the Council on Foreign Relations\u2019 CEO Speaker Series, Dimon argued that Europe itself is proof that such alliances fail to deliver economic strength. Dimon also pointed to Europe\u2019s shrinking share of global GDP as evidence of structural weakness. \u201cThe GDP of Europe has gone from 90% of America to 70%, and in our view, it will probably continue to erode over time because of high taxes,\u201d he said. World Bank data show the EU generated about $19.5 trillion in GDP in 2024, compared with nearly $28.8 trillion for the US.<\/p>\n

Dimon further warned that the European government is carrying debt loads approaching 100% of GDP, while burdensome regulation and weak capital formation have slowed growth. He contrasted Europe\u2019s smaller capital markets with America\u2019s, arguing that US policies have encouraged investment and expansion. \u201cThis is a serious problem,\u201d he said, noting that social safety nets alone cannot offset structural economic weaknesses.While Carney has argued that closer cooperation among middle powers could help counter tariffs, supply chain disruptions, and coercion from larger nations, Dimon insisted that growth matters more than alliances. He urged Europe to focus on building a true common market, opening trade services, and adopting policies that stimulate investment.<\/p>\n

Recently, Jamie Dimon assured the global investors that the United States still remains a safe heaven for investments, even as he acknowledged shifting dynamics in China\u2019s global relations.
