Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 to lift the FIFA World Cup 2026 title at the New York New Jersey Stadium, but the tension did not end with the final whistle.<!-- --> There were scuffles, heated arguments and even an apparent shove by the throat as tempers flared between players.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>The bad blood carried over into the trophy ceremony, where several Argentina players turned their backs while Spain celebrated with the World Cup trophy.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/> <span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/>After collecting their silver medals from FIFA president Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump, Argentina&#8217;s players refused to watch Spain celebrate.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>Instead, they stood facing their supporters with their backs to the podium as Spain collected their gold medals and lifted the World Cup trophy.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Scuffle, throat shove and heated arguments<br \/><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>The trophy ceremony followed chaotic scenes on the pitch moments after Spain sealed victory.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>Video footage showed Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes appearing to shove Spain defender Eric Garcia by the throat during a heated confrontation.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/>When Spain substitute Gavi stepped in to separate the players, Paredes appeared to push him to the ground.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/>Spain captain Rodri also appeared to be struck in the stomach by Argentina defender Nahuel Molina before Molina and Nicolas Otamendi confronted the midfielder during a tense verbal exchange.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"32\"\/>Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and several players rushed in to calm the situation before it escalated further.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>FIFA opens investigation<br \/><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>Following the ugly scenes, FIFA confirmed it has opened an investigation into the incidents.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"38\"\/>In a statement, FIFA said its &#8220;disciplinary committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential breaches of the (FIFA disciplinary code) with regard to the post-match incidents.&#8221;<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"40\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/sports\/football\/fifa-world-cup\/fifa-world-cup-final-turns-ugly-after-scuffle-throat-shove-argentina-players-turn-their-backs-as-spain-lift-fifa-world-cup-trophy-watch\/articleshow\/132549641.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI: The FIFA World Cup 2026 final had everything &#8211; drama, controversy and ugly scenes.
