In Ireland, McGregor funded more than €1.3 million in protective equipment during the COVID-19 crisis. The money has supported first responders, children, youth programmes and frontline healthcare workers, adding another side to the UFC star’s public profile.

How much has Conor McGregor given to first responders

A major part of McGregor’s charitable work has been linked to Proper No. Twelve, the Irish whiskey company he co-founded in 2018.At the time the brand launched, McGregor and his partners pledged to give $5 from every case sold to first responder organisations around the world, with donations capped at $1 million a year. The largest known beneficiary of that plan has been the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports families of fallen first responders and catastrophically injured veterans. The foundation said Proper No. Twelve had given it $3.7 million by March 2022. That included a $1 million donation presented by McGregor to Tunnel to Towers chairman and CEO Frank Siller.McGregor said at the time: “I’m proud of Proper No. Twelve, and all the people working behind the scenes at Proper No. Twelve to make this happen.”He added: “As human beings, it is a must to give back. That’s what life is about, giving back.”The Tunnel to Towers Foundation said the money supports its work with first responder families, including mortgage-free homes for eligible families of fallen first responders and Gold Star families. The foundation has also used donations to support injured veterans and first responders with specially adapted homes. The size of the Proper No. Twelve contribution is important because it was not simply a one-time personal cheque. The donation plan was connected to sales of the whiskey brand, creating a system through which commercial activity could also produce charitable funding.

Why did Conor McGregor give $500,000 to Louisiana youth

Another major donation came in April 2021, when McGregor gave $500,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana in southern Louisiana. The payment came during a public dispute involving McGregor and fellow UFC fighter Dustin Poirier. McGregor had previously pledged $500,000 to Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation, but questions later emerged over how the money would be used.Instead of sending the money through Poirier’s foundation, McGregor sent it directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana.ESPN reported that the donation was intended to support an eight-week summer programme across six club locations. The organisation said more than 600 children would benefit, with the money also supporting health and recreation activities. The club’s then-president and CEO Missy Andrade described the donation as unexpected.“It’s significant,” Andrade said. “It was totally unexpected, of course. Extremely appreciated and it’s really a game-changer for our organization and the kids we have.”The organisation also announced at the time: “This investment is a gamechanger! Thank you, Conor, for helping to ensure that our kids have what they need to grow and thrive this summer!”Poirier later said the decision to send the money directly to the club was not a problem.“Helping people in need was the mission and goal from the jump,” Poirier said.He also added: “It’s not my money – it’s the people’s money.”The donation therefore helped a local youth organisation without passing through Poirier’s charity.

What did Conor McGregor donate to Irish hospitals

McGregor’s healthcare support in Ireland became particularly visible during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.In March that year, he said he would personally buy €1 million worth of protective equipment for medical workers in Leinster, where hospitals were dealing with a serious shortage of supplies.“I have used my platforms multiple times since this has begun. I went further and made the video,” McGregor said.“Today I am purchasing myself, €1 million euro worth of personal protective equipment to be deployed to all the fighting hospitals in the Leinster region.”He then listed several hospitals, including St James’s, the Mater, Tallaght, Beaumont and St Vincent’s.“Our most affected region, to this date. St. James, Mater, Tallaght. Beaumont. Vincent’s. Where would we be without those brave men and women, I do not know. May God bless them and keep them safe!”Reports later put the value of the equipment at more than €1.3 million. The Irish Post reported that the supplies reached hospitals across Ireland, with deliveries including protective masks and other equipment. McGregor and volunteers were also involved in distributing supplies. One update from McGregor’s team said: “28 counties. 165 locations. 18 vans. A real solid day for the team! Tomorrow we go again. Thank you all involved!”He also personally delivered medical supplies to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital at Crumlin in Dublin during the pandemic. The Irish Independent reported in March 2020 that McGregor had pledged €1 million for protective equipment for frontline healthcare workers. Later reports documented the arrival and distribution of the supplies.

How has Conor McGregor supported children and local communities

McGregor’s charitable giving has also reached children’s healthcare and smaller community causes in Ireland. In 2023, he donated €10,000 to the Children’s Heart Centre at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin. The donation was made through a GoFundMe appeal for a child receiving treatment there. That donation was separate from his pandemic PPE effort and showed that his support has also included individual fundraising appeals. There is also a documented example involving SBG Portarlington, a gym connected to McGregor’s longtime coach John Kavanagh. In April 2020, Conor McGregor donated €10,000 to the gym’s “Do It For Dan” fundraiser, according to Laois Today.Other claims about larger grants to boxing and MMA gyms, as well as repeated donations to Crumlin, are harder to establish from reliable public records, so they should not be added to the confirmed total without stronger evidence.Taken together, the better-documented figures show the scale of McGregor’s giving. The more than $3.7 million sent through Proper No. Twelve to Tunnel to Towers, the $500,000 Louisiana youth donation and more than €1.3 million in Irish PPE support alone put his publicly reported contributions well above $5 million when the euro donations are converted to US currency. The figures also show that the money has gone to different groups rather than one single cause. First responder families have received major support through Tunnel to Towers, children and young people have benefited from the Louisiana donation and healthcare workers in Ireland received protective equipment when supplies were difficult to obtain.McGregor’s business success has therefore been tied to several large charitable efforts, with some donations coming directly from him and others through Proper No. Twelve. For a fighter whose career has generated huge pay-per-view numbers and major commercial deals, including the sale of a majority stake in Proper No. Twelve for a deal reported at up to $600 million, the charitable record provides a documented look at where part of that financial success has been directed.

Source link

Conor McGregor’s multi-million philanthropic contributions mark a new milestone as first responder and youth aid tops $5 million (Image via IG/X) Conor McGregor’s documented charitable giving has crossed the $5 million mark when his major donations and healthcare support are counted.
