Since then, the Palestinian Legislative Council, the parliament of Abbas&#8217;s Palestinian Authority, has not met since 2007.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>However, Palestinians did return to the polls in April, when they elected municipal council heads in the West Bank. That was the first vote since the Gaza war broke out in October 2023.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>On Tuesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/european-union\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union<\/a> said it was ready to deploy election observers for the Palestinian legislative elections.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas made the announcement on X after speaking with Palestinian vice president Hussein Al-Sheikh.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/>&#8220;Palestinians have the right to choose their representatives in elections that are credible, inclusive and transparent,&#8221; she wrote.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/>Holding elections is among the reforms demanded by the international community, including the European Union.<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/nri\/middle-east-news\/palestine-factions-consider-postponing-elections-amid-israeli-complications-internal-feud\/articleshow\/134795399.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (Photo: Reuters).
