WHO had earlier described the possible risk outside Russia as \u201cvery low\u201d, while Russian authorities cited a \u201ctypical\u201d acute respiratory viral infection.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"26\"\/>The case has revived memories of the COVID-19 pandemic and earlier disputes over the origins of the virus. Pneumonic plague affects the lungs and can spread between people through respiratory particles, while bubonic plague is more commonly transmitted through infected flea bites.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/>Earlier, US secretary of state Marco Rubio urged Moscow to share more information.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/>\u201cMaybe there\u2019s nothing there. Maybe it\u2019s bigger than we thought.
