The name will be &#8216;Paschim Banga&#8217;,&#8221; news agency ANI quoted him saying after he was asked about the name change again.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>He had also indicated earlier this week that the formal renaming was imminent, saying names such as \u201cPaschim Bangla\u201d, \u201cBangla\u201d and \u201cBanga\u201d would no longer be used.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>\u201cYes, absolutely. That is why the state is going to be named &#8216;Paschim Banga&#8217;,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>The proposal to rename West Bengal has a long political history. However, the proposal was not cleared.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>The Centre cited the need for a constitutional amendment, while sources had earlier said the similarity between \u2018Bangla\u2019 and Bangladesh could cause confusion at international forums.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/>In 2019, then Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai told the Rajya Sabha that the Centre had not approved the name change.<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a
