On X.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>Kallas added that after nearly 20 years without a parliamentary vote, the elections would offer a long-overdue opportunity to renew the legitimacy of Palestinian institutions.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"9\"\/>Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has set November 28 as the date for the legislative polls. If they go ahead, it will be the first such vote in two decades.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>Holding elections is among the reforms demanded by the international community, including the European Union, which provides financial support to the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority. AFP reported.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>The Palestinian territories last held legislative elections in 2006, when Hamas defeated Abbas&#8217;s Fatah party, which had previously dominated Palestinian politics. Since then, the Palestinian Legislative Council, the parliament of Abbas&#8217;s Palestinian Authority, has not met since 2007.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>Palestinians did return to the polls in April, when they elected municipal council heads in the occupied West Bank.
