While the Chiefs quarterback focused on his recovery, <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/brittany-mahomes\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brittany Mahomes<\/a> took on more at home with their three children. Mahomes recently opened up about that side of his comeback, giving Brittany credit for keeping their family routine going while he spent long hours at the rehab facility.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/>The comment came as Mahomes prepared for Kansas City\u2019s Week 4 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. Speaking with Mitch Holthus on \u201cThe Chiefs Kingdom Show\u201d at Arrowhead Stadium earlier this week, Mahomes explained that his recovery affected the whole family. He also revealed why getting back to his children became one of his biggest personal goals.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"7\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2> How Brittany Mahomes took over more at home while Patrick Mahomes focused on his recovery<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Mahomes did not go through his rehab alone, but his wife carried a different part of the load.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>In a recent interview, Mahomes explained that Brittany had to take on more responsibility because he spent much of the offseason away from home. The quarterback said he spent about seven hours a day at the rehab facility when the family would normally spend that time together on vacation or back in Texas.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>\u201cShe had to kind of take on that role on even more because I wasn\u2019t at the house,\u201d Mahomes said during \u201cThe Chiefs Kingdom Show.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>That meant Brittany handled more of the daily routine with their three children, Sterling, Bronze and Golden. Sterling is 5, Bronze is 3, and Golden is 20 months old, according to the Heavy report.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>Mahomes then gave his wife direct credit for keeping the household together.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>\u201cIt\u2019s a full commitment from the full family,\u201d he said during the same Arrowhead interview. He added that Brittany did \u201ca great job\u201d leading the household while he worked at the rehab facility.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>Brittany later shared a clip of Mahomes\u2019 comments on her Instagram Stories and responded, \u201cWould do anything for my babies and my husband.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"26\"\/>That response added another layer to Mahomes\u2019 comments. His return to football required daily work from him, but family life still needed attention while he spent those hours rehabbing.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2> Why getting back to his kids became a major part of Patrick Mahomes\u2019 comeback<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>The family angle goes beyond Brittany handling more at home. Mahomes has also explained how his injury changed his role as a father.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"32\"\/>During Chiefs training camp on July 24, 2026, Steve Walls asked Mahomes about the toughest mental hurdle during his rehab. Mahomes did not point to missing football. Instead, he talked about his children.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/>\u201cHonestly, the toughest part was at the beginning, not being able to get up and chase my kids around,\u201d Mahomes said at training camp.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>He explained that being active with his children has always been important to him. <!-- -->Once his recovery allowed him to move around with them again, that progress gave him another reason to keep pushing.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"40\"\/>Mahomes specifically mentioned Bronze\u2019s T-ball games and Sterling\u2019s soccer activities. Being able to attend those moments gave him a clear sign that his recovery was moving forward.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"43\"\/>Mahomes suffered the knee injury during Kansas City\u2019s Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in December 2025. He later spent roughly nine months working toward his return, with his children becoming part of the motivation behind that process.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"46\"\/>Now, as the Chiefs move through the 2026 season, Mahomes\u2019 comeback carries a personal story beyond the football field. His rehab demanded long hours from him, while Brittany helped keep their family life moving.
