Brittany Mahomes has always been an animal lover and has always been an important advocate for such causes. KC Pet Project is facing another difficult stretch as an influx of dogs leaves the Kansas City animal shelter with just two open kennels. The shelter recently shared a video showing some of the dogs currently waiting for homes, revealing that 93 dogs have come through its doors in the past five days alone. According to the shelter, only around 40 dogs remain after some have already found placements, but its kennels are still essentially at capacity.

Brittany shared KC Pet Project’s urgent video on her Instagram Story, bringing the shelter’s plea to her followers and highlighting the dogs desperately waiting for families.

Brittany Mahomes continues her support for KC Pet Project’s dogs

Brittany’s decision to amplify the message also comes with some personal history. She has supported KC Pet Project on multiple occasions over the years. In January 2024, the shelter reported that Brittany visited with her children, Sterling and Bronze, and brought donations while spending time with the animals. Her connection with the shelter goes back even further. In November 2022, Brittany and Katie Kenton of Katie’s Kennel visited KC Pet Project to hand out dog treats and egg biscuits to the shelter’s dogs. And the support hasn’t only been personal. In September 2024, the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation partnered with KC Pet Project for an adoption event designed to help tackle pet homelessness in the Kansas City community. The partnership offered reduced adoption fees for adult dogs weighing 30 pounds or more and adult cats, with KC Pet Project publicly thanking Patrick and Brittany Mahomes for their support.Just a month later, KC Pet Project reported receiving a $10,000 donation from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes through the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation at the foundation’s gala.So Brittany’s latest Instagram Story continues an already established relationship between the Mahomes family and the Kansas City animal shelter.

The shelter has described itself as an open-admission municipal shelter, meaning it cannot simply turn away homeless pets coming into its care. KC Pet Project says it receives an average of 40 to 60 new dogs and cats every day and cares for more than 16,000 animals annually. With the latest surge putting its kennel capacity under pressure, the shelter is now relying heavily on adoptions, fosters, and community support. And with Brittany Mahomes now helping amplify the message, her followers are getting a direct look at the dogs currently waiting for someone to take them home.

Brittany Mahomes (Getty Images) Brittany Mahomes has always been an animal lover and has always been an important advocate for such causes.
