Police had sought 30 days of custody for interrogation, but the court rejected the request and ordered that the lawyers be sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand, OHCHR said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>Their legal proceedings continued on September 22, when an Islamabad anti-terrorism court returned their bail petitions because they did not carry signed powers of attorney, according to the UN rights office.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>The UN experts also raised broader concerns about Pakistan\u2019s use of counter-terrorism legislation, criticising what they described as \u201cvague and broad\u201d provisions that could be used to restrict human rights and interfere with legitimate advocacy.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>They called on Pakistani authorities to drop any charges stemming from the lawyers\u2019 exercise of freedom of expression or their legitimate professional work.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>The experts also urged authorities to ensure that the couple had access to lawyers of their choice, their families and necessary medical care.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>The UN experts said they had been in contact with the Pakistani government over their concerns.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a
