PIB debunks fake government notification\" title=\"PIB debunks fake Saturday holiday notification (representative image)\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Ta7d_ img_cptn\"><span title=\"PIB debunks fake Saturday holiday notification (representative image)\">PIB debunks fake Saturday holiday notification (representative image)<\/span><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit on Thursday debunked a document circulating on social media that claimed the Central Government had declared every Saturday a public holiday for all public sector banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI).<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"2\"\/>In a post on X, PIB Fact Check said the purported Gazette, which was attributed to the ministry of finance&#8217;s department of financial services, was fake and that no such notification had been issued by the finance ministry.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2><b>What PIB Fact Check said<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>\u201cA Gazette circulating on social media, purportedly issued by the Ministry of Finance (Department of Financial Services), claims that the Central Government has declared every Saturday a public holiday for all Public Sector Banks, including SBI,\u201d PIB Fact Check said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"10\"\/>It added, \u201cThe document being circulated is Fake. No such notification has been issued by @FinMinIndia declaring every Saturday as public holiday for public sector banks.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>The fact-check unit also urged people to flag suspicious content related to the Central Government through PIB Fact Check.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2><b><keyword id=\"38837831\" type=\"Denny\" weightage=\"20\" keywordseo=\"five-day-banking-week\" source=\"keywords\">Five-day banking week<\/keyword> demand remains under discussion<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>The fake document comes against the backdrop of the long-standing demand for a five-day banking week.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) had recently deferred its proposed three-day nationwide strike after reaching an understanding with the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/indian-banks-association\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indian Banks&#8217; Association<\/a> (IBA). One of the key issues discussed was the demand to declare the remaining Saturdays as holidays.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>Under the understanding, a high-level committee comprising representatives of the IBA and UFBU will examine the issue, explore possible alternatives and consult stakeholders, including customers, according to the UFBU circular.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"26\"\/>The unions had earlier planned the September 28-30 strike with five-day banking among their key demands. The agitation was deferred after the IBA gave assurances on the issue and other matters.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2><b>What the government has actually notified<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"32\"\/>The PIB clarification makes clear that there is no notification declaring every Saturday a public holiday for public sector banks.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/>The recent agreement between the IBA and UFBU only provided for discussions through a committee on the demand for declaring the remaining Saturdays as holidays.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>It did not amount to a government notification implementing a five-day banking week.<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a
