The forces were searching the general area of Korag when troops noticed suspicious activity.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>NEW DELHI: The Army on Tuesday killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist during an encounter in the higher reaches of central Kashmir\u2019s Budgam district, security officials said.<!-- --> The encounter took place in the Korag area of Yousmarg after security forces launched a joint search operation based on specific intelligence inputs.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>The operation was conducted by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF Srinagar. The forces were searching the general area of Korag when troops noticed suspicious activity.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/>The troops challenged the suspected terrorists. The terrorists responded by opening fire. <!-- -->Security forces then retaliated, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"10\"\/>One terrorist was killed in the exchange. The Army identified him as a member of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Operation still under way<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>The security forces continued their operation in the area after the terrorist was neutralised. Searches were being conducted in the surrounding areas to check for any other terrorists.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/>In a post on X, the Army\u2019s Chinar Corps said, \u201cBased on specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by the Army, J&amp;K Police and CRPF Srinagar in the general area of Korag, Yousmarg.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>\u201cVigilant troops observed suspicious activity, and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire in which one terrorist was neutralised.
