For Delhi’s construction and real estate sector, the winter months will come with a tighter set of restrictions this year aimed at tackling the city\u2019s recurring air-pollution crisis.The Delhi government on Monday said all construction and demolition activities will be prohibited from December 10 to January 20, while dust-generating demolition and outdoor civil construction activities will be banned earlier, from November 1 to January 31.The restrictions are part of a wider winter pollution-control plan that also includes curbs on polluting vehicles, higher parking charges, staggered office timings and a 50% work-from-home arrangement.The restrictions are among a series of measures announced after a high-level meeting chaired by Union minister Bhupender Yadav to review Delhi\u2019s air-pollution mitigation plan ahead of winter.Why is construction being restricted?<\/span>Construction and road dust are among the sources targeted under Delhi\u2019s winter pollution strategy. The government plans to intensify action on construction dust, road dust, waste burning, vehicular emissions and industrial pollution before pollution levels typically worsen during winter.The government will also make registration on the Malba App mandatory as a condition for building-plan sanction, according to the Union environment ministry.Delhi has been asked to accelerate road redevelopment and dust-mitigation work, with 1,193 km of roads completed so far. The remaining work has been targeted for completion by November 15.The government has also stressed end-to-end paving of footpaths to improve walkability and reduce dust generation. Complaints related to these measures are to be addressed within 72 hours under the standard operating procedure.What will happen to construction projects?<\/span>The restrictions will be implemented in phases rather than imposing a blanket ban immediately.<\/p>\n
