He reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains the primary US objective.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>\u201cI think what&#8217;s going to happen is we&#8217;re going to win this war very soon, and as soon as we win it, the oil will go down, way down to what it was before the war,\u201d Trump said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>Asked whether US military strikes could resume before the midterm elections, Trump declined to rule out the possibility.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>\u201cI don&#8217;t want to say that. I don&#8217;t want to say that. I mean, it&#8217;s possible, but I just don&#8217;t want to say that,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>Trump stressed that Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, calling nuclear deterrence \u201ckey to the whole thing\u201d.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/>Trump also claimed that Iran&#8217;s economy had been severely damaged by the pressure campaign, saying, \u201cThey have no economy.\u201d He pointed to the fall in the value of Iran&#8217;s currency and rising prices, claiming inflation had reached nearly 300%, and citing a figure of 318%.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/><span class=\"strong\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">Iran warns of \u2018doomsday war\u2019, keeps diplomacy open<\/span><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>Iranian foreign minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile, said Tehran was prepared for a renewed conflict with Washington, while insisting that diplomacy remained an option.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>In an interview with NBC News&#8217; <span class=\"em\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">Meet the Press<\/span>, Araghchi said Iran was ready for a \u201cdoomsday war\u201d and would defend itself against any new US aggression.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>\u201cWe care about our national interests. At the same time, we stand ready for diplomacy.
