The club, co-owned by Brittany and Patrick Mahomes, announced a free youth soccer league in Kansas City’s historic Northeast neighbourhood. The initiative aimed to remove financial barriers for children eager to play, while Brittany’s work with the Current also earned her a notable honour celebrating women’s leadership and progress in sports.<\/p>\n The 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League was designed to give children an opportunity to experience the game without the cost often tied to organised sports. Set to begin on July 11, the programme targeted children aged 8 to 10, with organisers expecting around 120 participants during the summer.For families in the Northeast neighbourhood, the league offered more than a chance to play. Accessible youth sports can help children build confidence, learn teamwork and form connections with peers. By removing participation costs, the Current aimed to make those experiences available to more young people.Kansas City Current President Raven Jemison highlighted the wider purpose behind the initiative in a statement.\u201cLaunching the 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League is a perfect embodiment of the Kansas City Current\u2019s community pillars. We are excited to see how the league grows and the success stories that come from it.\u201dBrittany Mahomes, a former professional soccer player and founding co-owner of the Current, showed her support by liking the announcement on Instagram and sharing it on her Stories. Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi, also welcomed the news, commenting, \u201cSo amazing \ud83e\udd0d.\u201d<\/p>\n The youth league announcement came amid further recognition of Brittany Mahomes’ work with the Current. United WE, a national women’s leadership organisation, presented her with its inaugural Champion for Change Award at CPKC Stadium.Brittany Mahomes celebrated the honour on Instagram, writing:\u201cSuch an inspiring morning with @unitedwe__ celebrating progress and influencing action!\u201cIt was such an honor to receive the inaugural Champion for Change award in the stadium that represents what it looks like when women\u2019s needs are prioritized in sports and in the workplace.
