The Long Island teenager, who says he has an IQ of 168, has been accepted into a master\u2019s programme at New York University and is set to begin next fall.<!-- --> His reported IQ is higher than the often-cited estimate of around 160 for Albert Einstein, although Einstein never had a documented IQ test.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>Petraro-Hyppolite is expected to be less than half the age of the average US student beginning a master\u2019s programme. (Photo: Petraro-Hyppolite Family)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/>Petraro-Hyppolite told CBS News New York that his IQ is 168. <!-- -->When the reporter described him as a genius, the teenager responded with a touch of humour.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>\u201cI am not biased, but, yeah, if you say so,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>He joked that people often compare him with fictional child geniuses such as Sheldon Cooper and Doogie Howser.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>His academic record helps explain why he has attracted so much attention. Petraro-Hyppolite scored 1590 on the SAT at just 10 years old and graduated from high school at 11. He is now studying alongside students considerably older than him at LSU.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>\u201cThey shot like a double glance, like, \u2018Wait, what?\u2019\u201d he said of the reaction he sometimes gets from classmates.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>From cancer and Tourette\u2019s to <keyword id=\"194868\" type=\"General\" weightage=\"20\" keywordseo=\"NYU\" source=\"Orion\">NYU<\/keyword><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Petraro-Hyppolite\u2019s academic journey has also come alongside significant personal challenges. He was diagnosed with leukemia in September 2021 and has also dealt with Tourette syndrome, which, according to reports, previously resulted in him being placed in special education classes.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>His mother, Anne Petraro-Hyppolite, said his achievements remain surreal.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>\u201cIt\u2019s just surreal. When he graduated high school so young, it was surreal, but this is &#8230; everything he does is surreal,\u201d she said. \u201cHe just loves to learn. (Photo: CBS News New York)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/>Despite his extraordinary academic progress, Petraro-Hyppolite admits that starting a master\u2019s programme at 13 comes with some nerves.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>\u201cYeah, I mean, who wouldn\u2019t be?\u201d he said. \u201cBut then again, I am also excited, because new doors are opening.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/>His master\u2019s studies will focus on sports management, with interests in kinesiology and biology. The outlet reported that he could potentially become NYU\u2019s youngest graduate student, although the university is verifying that distinction.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"42\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>\u2018It\u2019s not like I was shot out the womb\u2019<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Petraro-Hyppolite also wants people to understand that being gifted does not mean everything comes effortlessly.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"45\"\/>\u201cIt\u2019s not like I was shot out the womb knowing everything I know. <!-- -->I have to learn it once or twice. Then I\u2019ll know,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"49\"\/>Outside the classroom, the teenager also spends time helping others.
