{"id":26927,"date":"2026-09-21T10:54:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-21T10:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/koshalsambada.in\/?p=26927"},"modified":"2026-09-21T10:54:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T10:54:14","slug":"iit-bombay-faculty-protest-in-support-of-prof-doolla-after-deanship-suspension-amid-student-death-row-mumbai-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/koshalsambada.in\/?p=26927","title":{"rendered":"IIT-Bombay faculty protest in support of Prof Doolla after deanship suspension amid student death row | Mumbai News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-articlebody=\"1\"><video-embed value=\"false\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"ihgno clearfix  \">\n<div class=\"e9jwa\">\n<div class=\"vdo_embedd\">\n<div class=\"GfdvZ\">\n<section class=\"_bIDB  clearfix id-r-component leadmedia undefined undefined  E9tg9 \" style=\"top:0px\">\n<div class=\"_bIDB\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">\n<div class=\"ypVvZ\">\n<div class=\"WGttI\"><img src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/thumb\/msid-134384908,imgsize-110696,width-400,height-225,resizemode-75\/iit-bombay-faculty-protested-the-deans-suspension-following-a-students-recent-death.jpg\" alt=\"IIT-Bombay faculty protest in support of Prof Doolla after deanship suspension amid student death row\" title=\"IIT-Bombay faculty protested the dean's suspension following a student's recent death\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Ta7d_ img_cptn\"><span title=\"IIT-Bombay faculty protested the dean's suspension following a student's recent death\">IIT-Bombay faculty protested the dean&#8217;s suspension following a student&#8217;s recent death<\/span><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>MUMBAI: The IIT Bombay Faculty Forum has come out in support of Prof Suryanarayana Doolla amid scrutiny following the death of a student on campus on September 18, saying that the professor has not been suspended from the institute and continues to remain a member of its faculty.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"2\"\/>In a statement issued on September 21 at 3 pm, the Forum said Doolla had only been temporarily relieved of his responsibilities as Dean (Administrative Affairs), a step it said was intended to facilitate an independent and unbiased investigation into the incident.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>The clarification comes amid media reports surrounding the professor\u2019s role and the circumstances leading up to the student\u2019s death.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>The Forum described Doolla as a senior and distinguished faculty member who has received several academic and teaching honours, including two awards based entirely on student feedback.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"10\"\/>It also pointed to his long tenure as Dean (student affairs), during which, it said, he helped establish several initiatives aimed at student welfare.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>The faculty body expressed concern over what it described as \u201cfalse and misleading\u201d reports that had damaged Doolla\u2019s reputation before the investigation had established the facts.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>At the same time, the Forum said it was deeply saddened by the student\u2019s death and acknowledged the grief surrounding the incident.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>The statement places in sharp focus the difficult balance institutions face after a campus tragedy: responding to the anguish and questions raised by students while ensuring that individuals under scrutiny are not pronounced culpable before a fair inquiry is completed.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>\u201cCompassion for a young life lost and fairness to those whose actions are under scrutiny need not be competing principles,\u201d the Forum said in substance, arguing that both must guide the institutional response.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>The statement was signed by Prof Rajkumar S. Pant, president of the IIT Bombay Faculty Forum.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>The Faculty Forum is a formal body of IIT Bombay comprising around 750 faculty members and serves as
