For most people, that combination might feel like the worst possible timing. For Pratik Butani, it became something he says he never would have planned, but eventually learned to treasure: time.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"2\"\/>When Butani&#8217;s last working day arrived, his wife, Shweta, was preparing to begin maternity leave and the couple were waiting for their first baby. Suddenly, the usual questions about careers and deadlines were replaced by something much more immediate: What would life look like now?<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>The first 15\u201320 days were difficult. There was uncertainty about finding another job, financial and career questions, and the uncomfortable feeling of not knowing what came next.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/>But Butani decided not to let the uncertainty consume the entire phase.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>Instead, he stayed close to his wife, helped around the house, worked on personal products and ideas, and tried to be present rather than constantly worrying about the next opportunity.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>The couple welcomed their baby boy, Anant and Butani says the arrival changed the scale of everything he had been worrying about.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>The job search was still there. So was the uncertainty. But now there were sleepless nights for a completely different reason, tiny rituals, family celebrations, new responsibilities and ordinary moments with his newborn son that could never be repeated.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>Looking back, Butani wondered whether he would have experienced those moments differently if he had been working.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>Perhaps he would have been thinking about meetings while awake at night, worrying about deadlines while helping his wife or trying to balance a demanding job with the arrival of his first child.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>Instead, the unexpected career break gave him something that is difficult to schedule on a calendar: time with the people he loved.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>His story is not a romanticisation of unemployment. Butani openly acknowledges that losing a job was difficult and that he still does not know exactly what his next professional chapter will look like.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>His message to people facing layoffs, unemployment or an uncertain career transition is simple: keep searching, keep learning and keep yourself ready for the next opportunity. But don&#8217;t allow the search for what comes next to completely erase what is happening today.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/>\u201cI didn&#8217;t choose this pause,\u201d he wrote. \u201cBut once life gave me this pause, I chose to live it fully.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>And now, as he looks toward his next professional opportunity, Butani says he is carrying something into it that he didn&#8217;t have before: a little more perspective, a lot more gratitude and a new reason to keep building.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/>His final words were not about the job he lost.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"37\"\/>They were for the son who arrived during the pause.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/>\u201cWelcome to the world, Anant.
