I have friends on both sides, great people,\u201d Trump said when asked about Irish unity. \u201cIt\u2019s going to happen eventually. You know what? The way I look at it, it\u2019s going to happen eventually. <!-- -->It may as well happen now.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>Farage hits back at Trump<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>Farage, who has generally been a strong supporter of Trump, publicly disagreed with the US President over the issue.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>\u201cNorthern Ireland is a proud and integral part of the United Kingdom. The people of Northern Ireland neither want a referendum nor unification. I disagree with President Trump,\u201d Farage wrote on X.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>His comments came as other UK politicians also criticised Trump\u2019s remarks and stressed their support for Northern Ireland remaining part of the UK.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>Trump\u2019s Ireland remarks spark UK reaction<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch called Trump\u2019s comments \u201cdeeply unhelpful\u201d, saying that such remarks about the future of democratic countries created \u201cunnecessary tension\u201d.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>\u201cNorthern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom,\u201d Badenoch said, adding that the Conservative Party would \u201calways defend the union\u201d.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"26\"\/>Shadow Northern Ireland secretary Alex Burghart also rejected Trump\u2019s position, saying the US President was \u201cvery wrong\u201d and that Northern Ireland was an \u201cintegral part\u201d of the UK.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>DUP leader Gavin Robinson said Northern Ireland remained part of the UK because that was the \u201csettled democratic will\u201d of its people.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/>\u201cI am confident NI will continue to choose the UK and the security it offers,\u201d Robinson said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe, another supporter of Trump, also criticised the US President\u2019s comments.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>\u201cThe American President is talking about breaking up our country.
