<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nElon Musk<\/a>\u2019s former girlfriend Ashley St Clair has revealed that Musk once told her he wanted to have a child with her because he needed \u201ca legion of children before the civil war\u201d. St Clair made the claim while speaking at the Venice premiere of a new documentary about the billionaire, directed by filmmaker Alex Gibney. The comments have drawn attention because of Elon Musk\u2019s long-standing focus on population growth, civilisational risks and his growing political influence through X (formerly Twitter). Ashley St Clair, who had a son with Musk in 2024, also accused him of creating division through the social media platform.<\/p>\n Ashley St Clair said Elon Musk sent her a text message explaining why he wanted to have a child with her. According to her, he said he needed \u201ca legion of children before the civil war\u201d.The pair later had a son in 2024 but have since separated.In the documentary, St Clair also raised concerns about Musk\u2019s use of X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Asked whether Musk was simply afraid of a civil war or was actively trying to encourage one, she said:\u201cWhatever it is, what he\u2019s doing with this platform on X cannot be ignored, because he is stoking flames that don\u2019t exist in the real world.\u201dShe said Musk was using the platform in a way that could have consequences beyond social media. \u201cHe is creating something that is causing real world effects with all of these inputs on X,\u201d St Clair said.The former Trump supporter also said she now regrets her earlier political activism. She argued that Elon Musk\u2019s activity on X was contributing to division and warned about its possible consequences.\u201cI do believe that he is causing deliberate division that may be catastrophic if it\u2019s not regulated or tamed, or if we don\u2019t do our part in putting it down,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Filmmaker Alex Gibney, who has previously made documentaries about subjects including Enron, Vladimir Putin and the US military, also spoke about Musk at the Venice premiere. Gibney suggested that Musk\u2019s focus on civilisational collapse could be linked to his childhood in South Africa.\u201cHe had a childhood that was very difficult and traumatic,\u201d Gibney said. \u201cTo some extent he\u2019s now playing out that trauma on the rest of us, if I were to psychoanalyse the situation.\u201dThe documentary was filmed over three years and follows Musk\u2019s rise from an internet entrepreneur to a major figure in electric cars, rockets and technology, as well as his later involvement in US politics.Gibney described Elon Musk\u2019s story as more than a traditional technology success story.\u201cWhat I discovered was that the story of Musk was not a new tech story,\u201d he said. \u201cBut his story is the story of an old wine in a new bottle. His story turns out to be the story of the confidence man, the stock pumper.
