The decision applies to eligible beneficiaries whose residential property falls within the limits of a Gram Panchayat in Gujarat, with the exemption restricted to one residential house.The measure is intended to reduce the tax burden on the residential homes of soldiers and their families and provide them with direct financial relief. It also described the move as an expression of respect for the service of defence personnel and the sacrifices made by soldiers.<\/p>\n A specific provision has been made for widows of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice. The government said extending the exemption to their residential homes reflects its sensitivity towards and respect for their sacrifice.The provision covers the homes of families of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation, with the government saying the exemption is a way of expressing gratitude to these families.The benefit, however, is not a blanket exemption on residential properties. It is limited to a single residential house used by an eligible beneficiary.<\/p>\n The final decision comes after the government first proposed changes to the existing rules. Draft rules amending the \u2018Gujarat Gram and Nagar Panchayats Taxes and Fees Rules, 1964\u2019 were published in the Extraordinary Gazette of the Government of Gujarat in December 2025.The draft invited objections and suggestions from concerned persons. The government said it considered the objections and suggestions received before issuing the final amended rules.The State Government has now notified the Gujarat Gram and Nagar Panchayats Taxes and Fees (Amendment) Rules, 2026, using the powers conferred on it under the Gujarat Panchayats Act, 1993.The amended rules will take effect from the date they are published in the Official Gazette.The government said exempting the homes of serving soldiers, veterans and widows of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice is a step towards their welfare and that of their families.
