Trump on Wednesday said the renaming of the lake to \u201cLake America\u201d was \u201ccomplete, ratified, and binding\u201d after Apple Maps adopted the name for users in the US.In a Truth Social post, Trump said, \u201cApple Maps has just announced that it has changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, so now that very important change of names, between Google Maps and Apple Maps, is complete, ratified, and binding. Thank you for your attention to this matter!\u201dGoogle Maps had earlier adopted \u201cLake America\u201d for users in the US following a change by the US Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). Google said users in Canada would continue to see \u201cLake Ontario\u201d, while users elsewhere would see both names.The US executive order behind the change applies to American federal agencies and does not have authority over Canadian territory or international naming standards. Lake Ontario is shared by Canada and the US.The move has drawn strong opposition in Canada. Ontario Premier Doug Ford unveiled a sign along the Canadian shore reading \u201cLake Ontario.
