While both Apple and <a href=\"https:\/\/gadgetsnow.indiatimes.com\/brands\/Google\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" target=\"\" frmappuse=\"1\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a> quickly updated their platforms to reflect the change, MapQuest posted an announcement on X declaring that it would not comply with the rename. The company posted three different posts on the same:<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"9\"\/>\u201cWe\u2019re not changing it\u201d, \u201cWe&#8217;re not changing the name of Lake Ontario. <!-- -->Name it whatever you want at your leisure\u201d, and \u201cWe are aware that Lake Ontario is being correctly labeled on our map.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>The public pushback immediately resonated with mobile users looking for an alternative to Big Tech platforms. MapQuest sat at No. 128 on the US App Store on August 28 before jumping to No. 92 on August 29. By Monday, August 31, the platform surged to No. 3 overall while seizing the No. 1 rank in the Navigation category. By Tuesday (September 1), it sat on the top of the chart, holding the top spot across all applications and mobile games nationwide.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Record downloads and active user engagement<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Estimates from analytics provider Sensor Tower show the app gained roughly 632,000 US downloads in the days following the presidential directive. In a direct statement, MapQuest stated total adoption was even higher, topping 1.5 million downloads across Canada and the US combined.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>\u201cWhat\u2019s been incredible is that people aren\u2019t just installing our app \u2014 they care enough to communicate directly with us \u2014 making feature requests and submitting bug reports on social, and in our app reviews. Our small team has been working around the clock to build features people are asking for. We are aiming for everyone to have a great experience with the app,\u201d MapQuest GM Doug Berger told TechCrunch.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>In the latest post on X, the app MapQuest said, \u201cThe people have spoken.
