Reflecting on his tenure, Cook shared one daily ritual that shaped his leadership and kept him connected to Apple\u2019s users. <!-- -->As he reflects on his tenure at the helm of the $4.75 trillion tech giant, Cook has revealed one daily habit he credits with keeping him grounded throughout his run: reading customer emails, every single morning, without fail.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>A 15-year morning ritual of Tim Cook<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Cook revealed in a community letter that since 2011, he has begun nearly every morning by reading emails from Apple customers. \u201cFor the past 15 years I\u2019ve started just about every morning the same way. <!-- -->I open my email and I read notes I received the day before from Apple\u2019s users all over the world,\u201d he wrote.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>These messages ranged from heartfelt stories about Apple products saving lives or capturing memories, to complaints about devices. Cook said it was an \u201chonor and a privilege\u201d to lead a company building transformative technology, adding: \u201cIn every one of those emails I feel the beating heart of our shared humanity\u2026 I feel a gratitude that I cannot put into words.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Tim Cook\u2019s 4 am routine<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Cook\u2019s habit was part of a strict routine. He rises before 4 a.m., spends an hour reading hundreds of emails, then works out before diving back into customer feedback. You thank me for the ways Mac has changed what you can do at work and sometimes give me a hard time because something you care about isn\u2019t working like it should.<\/span><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/><span class=\"em\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">In every one of those emails I feel the beating heart of our shared humanity. I feel a sense of deepening obligation to work harder and push further. But most of all, I feel a gratitude that I cannot put into words, that I somehow got to be the person on the other end of those emails, the leader of a company that ignites imaginations and enriches lives in such profound ways it defies description. What an honor and a privilege it has been.<\/span><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"30\"\/><span class=\"em\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">Today we announced that I\u2019m taking the next step in my journey at Apple. Over the coming months I will be transitioning into a new role, leaving the CEO job behind in September and becoming Apple\u2019s executive chairman. A new person will be stepping into what I know in my heart is the best job in the world. That leader is John Ternus, a brilliant engineer and thinker who has spent the past 25 years building the Apple products our users love so much, obsessed with every detail, focused on every possible way we can make something better, bolder, more beautiful, and more meaningful.<\/span><span class=\"em\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\"> He is the perfect person for the job.<\/span><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/><span class=\"em\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">John cares so much about who we are at Apple, what we do at Apple, who we reach at Apple, and he has the heart and character to lead with extraordinary integrity.
