It\u2019s everything she dreamed of: sequins, sparkle and smiles, lots of them.<!-- --> On her first day as a teacher, she walked in wearing a sequined apple dress. That\u2019s certainly not one of the immediate choices for most first-year teachers on opening day. But Jazzy wasn\u2019t trying to disappear into the background. She was trying to show her five-year-olds that their teacher loved school and that she was going to make it fun!<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>\u201cI once heard the term \u2018dopamine dressing\u2019, and it immediately stuck with me,\u201d she told People. \u201cIf I see something that\u2019s colourful, sparkly, fun and makes me smile, I\u2019ll wear it!\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Taking dopamine dressing seriously<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-pos=\"0\" class=\"id-r-component iIpbx undefined  &#10;        \">\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\u200b&lt;strong&gt;She wears sequins, sparkles and school-themed clothes to teach kindergarten&lt;\/strong&gt;\u200b\" msid=\"133682421\" imgsize=\"478354\" resizemode=\"4\" width=\"\" title=\"\" placeholdersrc=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/83033472.cms\" offsetvertical=\"0\" placeholdermsid=\"47529300\" type=\"thumb\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/imgsize-478354,msid-133682421\/strongshe-wears-sequins-sparkles-and-school-themed-clothes-to-teach-kindergartenstrong.jpg\" data-api-prerender=\"true\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Blackburn\u2019s personal style is simple. She wears clothes that make her happy. And that\u2019s exactly what dopamine dressing is all about. Initially, her colourful clothes impressed the kids. Soon, others started to notice too. Nine months into her teaching career, she had earned nearly 600,000 TikTok followers who tune in to watch her get dressed for work. Her clothes are simply eye-catching. Think colourful fabrics, glitter, sequins and a refusal to apologise for any of it!<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"9\"\/>In fact, her love for colourful clothes goes back to her childhood. <!-- -->She was nicknamed \u2018Snazzy Jazzy\u2019 in first grade for her fun clothes. During her teenage years, she wanted to fit in, and that\u2019s when she went for a \u2018normal style\u2019. But then she entered the teaching profession. And here, colourful dressing wasn\u2019t a problem. The young kids appreciated her style more than anyone else.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>\u201cNow that I\u2019ve found my career in teaching, I feel like I\u2019ve found the perfect profession that allows me to dress for my inner child again,\u201d Blackburn said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Making teaching fun<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-pos=\"0\" class=\"id-r-component iIpbx undefined  &#10;        \">\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\u2018If it makes me smile, I\u2019ll wear it\u2019_ Meet the teacher redefining workwear\" msid=\"133682515\" imgsize=\"528552\" resizemode=\"4\" width=\"\" title=\"\" placeholdersrc=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/83033472.cms\" offsetvertical=\"0\" placeholdermsid=\"47529300\" type=\"thumb\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/imgsize-528552,msid-133682515\/if-it-makes-me-smile-ill-wear-it-meet-the-teacher-redefining-workwear.jpg\" data-api-prerender=\"true\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>Blackburn has a curated wardrobe for school. School-themed pieces dominate her collection, roughly 90 per cent, by her count. Teacher patches, sequined letters, apples, crayons and ABCs cover the garments hanging in what used to be a regular bedroom but is now her personal dressing room, painted entirely pink. \u201cWe actually have an entire room in our house that\u2019s painted pink and serves as my closet and dressing room, so my wardrobe has definitely taken on a life of its own!\u201d she said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>Unlike during her teen days, showing up in colourful clothes at the kindergarten is no longer frowned upon. She could show up covered in sequins and school logos, and that is actually appropriate. More than that, it\u2019s welcomed.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>\u201cI love pieces that incorporate school themes because there aren\u2019t many professions where you can show up to work covered in sequins, apples, crayons and ABCs, but in kindergarten, it just works!\u201d she said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>The unique shopping experience<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Blackburn has her own strategy for shopping for the right pieces for school. Queen of Sparkles, Sparkle in Pink, ReallyRexBoutique and Depop are some of her popular shopping destinations. And the \u2018Queen of the Classroom\u2019 collection by Queens of Sparkles has to be her favourite.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/>\u201cTheir pieces are definitely an investment, but the quality is amazing, and with how much I wear them, they end up being worth it for me,\u201d she said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/>Her most expensive outfit, a Queen of Sparkles polka-dot set with sequined patches, retails for roughly $400 combined. Her first-day-of-school dress cost $39. \u201cI think that\u2019s a perfect example of how you absolutely don\u2019t have to spend hundreds of dollars to find a fun, memorable piece that makes you feel amazing,\u201d she said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>Now she buys more strategically. Maybe one special piece per month, and that\u2019s enough. Her collection is now large enough that she can mix and match and rotate outfits without repeating them often. <!-- -->\u201cI just see something fun and figure out how to make it work!\u201d she says.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"40\"\/>But this wasn\u2019t always the case. In the beginning, she used to shop frequently, once every week. She does not have children, so the remaining money after paying the bills goes towards clothing. \u201cWas saving it probably the more financially responsible choice? Yes. But fashion is something that genuinely makes me happy, and now I have a wardrobe I can continue wearing and styling for years,\u201d she told the outlet.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"43\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Thinking of building your personal wardrobe?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Fashion has practically become Blackburn\u2019s second name. So, if you were to ask her for some fashion advice on how to bring more personality into your work wardrobe, she suggests starting with what you already have. Experiment with the colours.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"47\"\/>\u201cYou also don\u2019t need 50 statement pieces to start dressing more fun. Find a few special pieces that genuinely spark joy for you and build outfits around them,\u201d she said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"49\"\/>For her, fashion is rather about how one feels. \u201c\u2018Fun\u2019 fashion is whatever makes you happy. <!-- -->The whole point is finding pieces that make you excited to get dressed in the morning.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"53\"\/>And for Blackburn, it\u2019s her colourful clothes. \u201cI love sharing the colourful outfits, but I think what I\u2019m really sharing is joy. If someone can find a little bit of happiness in seeing how happy I am about my outfit, my classroom or my students, then that means so much more to me than any number of views or followers ever could.
