JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has made his position clear, calling the habit of checking emails and notifications disrespectful.<!-- --> <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/ibm\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IBM<\/a> CEO Arvind Krishna, however, sees things differently \u2014 at least when it comes to large meetings. The IBM chief says the size and purpose of a meeting should determine whether using a device is acceptable. While Arvind Krishna agrees that people should pay attention during small, face-to-face meetings, he believes large gatherings are often more about sharing information than holding a real discussion.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>IBM CEO Arvind Krishna draws a line between small and large meetings<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Arvind Krishna shared his views during an interview with CNN in October 2025, explaining why he does not believe all meetings should follow the same rules on device use. <!-- -->\u201cI distinguish between one-to-10-person meetings and very large meetings. If it\u2019s a very large meeting, I\u2019m sorry. It\u2019s not really a meeting. It\u2019s a communication vehicle. You\u2019re just informing people,\u201d Krishna said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>His comments offer a different view from Jamie Dimon, who has repeatedly criticised employees for checking devices during meetings.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"14\"\/>However, Krishna made it clear that he expects people to stay focused during smaller meetings. \u201cIf it\u2019s a small meeting, I would really frown upon if somebody is sitting opposite my desk and lost in their phone,\u201d he said. \u201cI would tell them: \u2018Why don\u2019t you come back when you have time?\u2019\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Jamie Dimon has repeatedly called device use in meetings \u2018disrespectful\u2019<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Jamie Dimon has long spoken about his frustration with distracted employees. At Fortune&#8217;s Most Powerful Women summit in 2025, he said he expects people in meetings to give their full attention.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>\u201cIf you have an iPad in front of me and it looks like you\u2019re reading your email or getting notifications, I tell you to close the damn thing,\u201d Dimon said. \u201cIt\u2019s disrespectful.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>The JPMorgan CEO also raised the issue in his 2025 annual letter to shareholders, saying employees should avoid unnecessary meetings and make the ones they attend more productive.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>\u201cI see people in meetings all the time who are getting notifications and personal texts or who are reading emails,\u201d Dimon wrote. \u201cThis has to stop. It\u2019s disrespectful.
