Located in Locust Ridge near Sevierville, the cabin was where Parton grew up with her parents and 11 siblings, before her career and business ventures later brought her name to some of Tennessee’s biggest tourism properties.According to a New York Post report, the cabin had no electricity or running water and consisted of just two rooms. The original property remains privately owned and is not open to the public, while a replica of the childhood home has been created at Dollywood in nearby Pigeon Forge. From childhood cabin to DollywoodParton later recreated her childhood home at Dollywood, the theme park in Pigeon Forge that carries her name. The attraction, called Dolly’s Tennessee Mountain Home, is a replica of the original two-room cabin and was created with help from members of Parton’s family. It recreates the simple interiors and furnishings associated with her childhood.Parton became involved with Silver Dollar City in Pigeon Forge in the 1980s, and the park was renamed Dollywood in 1986. It has since developed into one of Tennessee’s major tourism attractions, drawing visitors to the Smoky Mountains and supporting a much wider hospitality and commercial property market.$1.8 billion economic impactThe scale of Dollywood’s economic footprint is now far removed from the modest circumstances of Parton’s childhood. State officials have said the theme park generates about $1.8 billion in annual direct economic impact and is Sevier County’s largest employer. The figure is an economic-impact measure, not Dollywood’s annual revenue. The park’s activity supports a broader tourism ecosystem that includes hotels, vacation rentals, restaurants, attractions and other businesses in Pigeon Forge and surrounding Sevier County.Parton’s property story also extended into private real estate. She and her late husband, Carl Dean, owned Willow Lake Plantation, a large estate near Brentwood, Tennessee. The property covered about 75 acres and included a substantial 23-room home along with other buildings. The contrast is striking: Parton began life in a two-room cabin without basic utilities and later became associated with multimillion-dollar real estate and a tourism business whose annual economic impact runs into the billions. Her original childhood home remains private, but its significance has grown far beyond its physical size. Today, the cabin is part of the story of how Parton’s Tennessee roots became intertwined with the region’s tourism, business and real-estate transformation.

Source link

Dolly Parton’s modest two-room cabin symbolizes a rich chapter in Tennessee’s tourism narrative.
