Reports and growing expectations surrounding the organization suggest that Celebrini might wear the captain\u2019s \u201cC\u201d when San Jose opens its 2026-27 campaign against the Florida Panthers.<!-- --> His age may be open to debate, but his form has made it harder and harder to argue against him taking an early leadership role.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>Celebrini has quickly become the centrepiece of the San Jose Sharks\u2019 rebuild. His ability to impact games, perform under pressure and take ownership in critical moments has led to comparisons with some of the NHL\u2019s top young leaders. His international experience has given his case for a bigger role in San Jose another layer, too.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"7\"\/><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"9\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2><b>Why could Macklin Celebrini captain the San Jose Sharks?<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Macklin Celebrini could be the guy to lead the San Jose Sharks because his impact in the NHL, composure and ability to lead have already separated him from many players his age.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>Celebrini arrived in the NHL with high expectations after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. Instead of being overwhelmed by the spotlight, forward San Jose Sharks quickly became one of the franchise\u2019s most important offensive players.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>Celebrini\u2019s possible promotion is reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/connor-mcdavid\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connor McDavid<\/a>\u2019s early captaincy with the Edmonton Oilers. McDavid was named captain at 19 years and 266 days old, one of the youngest in NHL history.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>The comparison is not made on age alone. Both players entered the league with tremendous expectations and quickly became key players for their franchises. Eventually, McDavid led Edmonton back into the playoff picture and demonstrated how a top young player can be the face of a rebuilding franchise.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>Sidney Crosby also got the \u201cC\u201d early, becoming captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins at 19 years and 297 days old. He then proceeded to prove that youth is no barrier to being an effective NHL leader.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>Crosby\u2019s career provides an important lesson for the San Jose Sharks. If the player has respect because of his preparation, his performance and his consistency, then he doesn\u2019t need to be a captain for years.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h3><b>How could Macklin Celebrini\u2019s captaincy affect San Jose?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>The promotion of Celebrini to captain would be a symbolic one, making him the face of the long-term vision of the San Jose Sharks. <!-- -->That responsibility may also help speed up his development as the franchise looks to transition from rebuilding to playoff contention.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"32\"\/>The big question is whether the San Jose Sharks will officially name Celebrini captain before the start of the 2026-27 NHL season; until then, the captaincy should be considered an expectation or report, not a final decision.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"34\"\/>Should Celebrini get the gig, he&#8217;ll be in select company with Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby, and the San Jose Sharks will have a face for their rebuild.<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/sports\/nhl\/news\/is-macklin-celebrini-ready-to-captain-the-san-jose-sharks-and-follow-nhl-stars-connor-mcdavid-and-sidney-crosby\/articleshow\/133568932.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FILE &#8211; San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, right, talks with goaltender Yaroslav Askarov during the third period of an NHL hockey game against the Anaheim Ducks, April 9, 2026, in Anaheim, Calif.
