The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI<\/a>) on Tuesday said several major food business operators (FBOs) had taken corrective action following notices issued over misleading labels, claims and other regulatory violations.In a post on X, the food regulator said the measures included withdrawal of misleading label claims and changes to product packaging to ensure consumer safety and regulatory compliance.Among the companies named by FSSAI were Amway India Enterprises, Juza Foods, Mondelez India Foods and Sapiens Labs, while another case involved a product marketed by Vichi Agro Products and processed and packed by J J Foods.<\/p>\n

Amway removes ‘Energy Drink’ and ‘100%’ claims<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

FSSAI said Amway India Enterprises Pvt Ltd had accepted its directions and removed the term “Energy Drink” from its XS product range.According to the regulator, the product was a caffeinated beverage licensed under food category 14.1, but carried the term “Energy Drink”. Amway confirmed that it had removed the word “Energy” from its product artwork, website and promotional materials.FSSAI said Amway had clarified that the descriptor was originally adopted in good faith following an FSSAI advisory issued in March 2024. The company said revised packaging would take effect from the next production cycle in August 2026.Amway also requested permission to sell existing stock carrying the earlier artwork until the inventory was exhausted in the ordinary course of trade, while the revised packaging is introduced.In a separate case, FSSAI said Amway had also removed the term “100%” from its product name “100% Pure Coconut Oil”, citing violations related to food labelling and advertising claims.The company submitted a compliance response confirming that it had removed the claim from its packaging and promotional material and discontinued old stock from sales channels.Revised packaging has been finalised and is in production, with the new packaging expected to be rolled out progressively from September-October 2026, along with updated website listings.<\/p>\n

Juza Foods agrees to remove baby food claims<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

FSSAI also highlighted action taken by Juza Foods, Malappuram, Kerala, over multiple claims made for its baby food products.The regulator listed claims including “pure”, “natural”, “traditional”, “no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives” and “Your baby’s 1st taste of Real Nutrition”.It also flagged health claims such as products being “ideal for sensitive babies”, “easy to digest”, offering “better absorption”, and helping to “boost immunity” and “support stronger bones”.FSSAI also cited claims including “100% Ragi”, “100% vegan”, “100% Kerala Banana powder” and “100% sweet potato powder”, along with comparative claims that the products contained “10X the calcium of wheat and rice” and “3X the calcium of Milk”.The regulator further said the company had been conducting its food business through an online website without having e-commerce listed as a Kind of Business in its licence.Juza Foods acknowledged the violations and agreed to remove the misleading claims, FSSAI said. Its selling website has been shut down until the rectification is completed, while the company has applied for modification of its licence and for an e-commerce category.<\/p>\n

Products delisted, advertisements withdrawn<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

In another case, FSSAI said a product marketed by Vichi Agro Products Pvt Ltd and processed and packed by J J Foods was flagged over a misleading trade name.A response received from Flipkart stated that the food business operator had delisted the product from the platform.FSSAI also said Mondelez India Foods Pvt Ltd had withdrawn claims and advertisements from e-commerce platforms following action over misleading health claims and nutrient comparative claims.Sapiens Labs similarly submitted a response and withdrew all claims and advertisements after FSSAI flagged a misleading claim on its own initiative.<\/p>\n
