In the days that followed, Canton police detectives interviewed 22-year-old Celso Edison Vicente Y Vicente, who was identified as the live-in boyfriend of the toddler\u2019s 18-year-old mother, Devorah Diaz Perez.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>According to arrest warrants cited by local media, Vicente Y Vicente was responsible for caring for the child on the day of his death and allegedly struck and \u201cseverely beat\u201d him with his hands and other unidentified objects. <!-- -->He was arrested around 7 pm (local time) that day and charged with malice murder and first-degree cruelty to children.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>He remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, as cited by the People.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>More than two weeks after the toddler\u2019s death, police also arrested Diaz Perez after detectives determined there was probable cause to charge her with second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree cruelty to children and three counts of reckless conduct. She was taken into custody and booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>\u201cThe death of a child is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic loss,\u201d Canton Police Chief Marty Ferrell was quoted as saying by the People.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>\u201cOur detectives have worked diligently to conduct a thorough and professional investigation. We remain committed to protecting the integrity of this case and allowing the judicial process to move forward.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner\u2019s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the child\u2019s official cause and manner of death.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a
