anti-Sikh riots followed the October 31, 1984, assassination of then-Prime Minister and Congress leader <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/indira-gandhi\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indira Gandhi<\/a> by her Sikh bodyguards in retaliation for the Army&#8217;s Operation Blue
